Ian Walton was born in Bebington on the Wirral in 1963 and moved to North Wales in 1966.
Ian started painting in oils aged 13. He studied Art and Art History, but made a conscious decision not to embark on a Degree course as a result of witnessing the direction of British Art then and now.
Ian is self taught and inspired by nature and the natural world, in particular the sky, mountains and the sea.
After many years of mixed fortune as an artist he started his own climbing centre in Chester in 1993, and became a professional mountaineering instructor having started climbing aged 14. Ian is also a passionate glider pilot, having started flying aged 16.
In his own words, Ian describes his work: “To capture the drama of nature, light, shade, power. Breaks in the cloud, sunlight on rock, water. big surf. If I’m striving for anything, this is it, and to create work that appeals to everyday people, not the art world.
