Janet Golphin RWS
Janet was born in Pontefract in 1950. Although she received no formal art training Janet has devoted her life to painting. In 1996 she was elected a member of both the Royal Watercolour Society and the RBA. In 1998 she was elected a Vice President of the RWS. She has exhibited widely and in 1992 she won the prestigious Jeffrey Archer Award for “Most Outstanding Artist” at the RWS. In 2001 she appeared as one of the artists in Channel 4’s Watercolour Challenge.
Janet’s love of vibrant colour, created by layering washes of paint with a strong visual composition is the basis of her work.
Janet writes….”My work is moving to a more simplistic composition – balancing exciting colours with an intriguing series of shapes. I work mainly in still life – often with flowers trying always to communicate a sense of spiritual energy and wellbeing. Pink, reds and orange are my favourite colours, which I juxtapose with others to create either a burst of energy or a feeling of softness and calm. Above all my wish for everyone looking at my paintings is for them to enjoy them and be happy!”
Janet has exhibited in London, New York, France and Germany as well as having work in many prestigious private collections, most notably HRH Queen Elizabeth II and the late HRH Queen Mother.
