Andrew Hood

Andrew Hood lives and works in Bristol having attended the Liverpool John Moores University from 1992-1993

Andrew is now a full-time painter based in Bristol.

Andrew makes several trips abroad each year to gather reference for his painting. Recent journeys have taken him to Tuscany, the South of France, Morocco and Croatia.

His inspiration comes, he says “from places I have visited recently and places I can recall from long ago, if only as a fleeting memory. I try and portray a street or city using location sketches as reference whilst attempting to scratch beneath the surface of an everyday scene. My work is based upon the observation of people as they go about their daily business. I am also fascinated by tourists as they travel around holiday destinations with their rucksacks and sunglasses, going from tourist shops to museums and back again. I seek unusual viewpoints to try and capture their movements and actions ”.

In 1995, as a student, Andrew won the Gorstella Award for Fine Art and the Liverpool life painting open. On graduating he was asked to participate in a group show at Gorstella Gallery and has mainly worked as a fine artist since, exhibiting with the Gallery many times.
