Jenny Wheatley is a leading member of both the New English Art Club and the Royal Watercolour Society, and has established a reputation as one of the most exciting and successful colourist painters of her generation. One of the most distinctive of watercolourists, she produces equally fine work in oil and mixed media. Her work is often characterised by a variety of strong coloured pattern worked over the entire surface with sophisticated and playful effect.
Painting is a compulsion for Jenny Wheatley, an activity as necessary as eating or sleeping. She thrives on intuition and practice rather than intellect and theory – ‘go ahead, select out and get on with it’ is her cri de coeur.
Believing that all experience is educative, she is willing to learn by her mistakes and has been happy to pass her accumulated knowledge on to others in the concentrated atmosphere of workshop and summer school.
Jenny trained at West Surrey School of Art and Design gaining a BA Hons in Fine Art/Printmaking in 1981. She has also exhibited at selected mixed exhibitions including The Royal Watercolour Society, British Contemporary Watercolours, Royal Academy Summer Show and Christies Contemporary Art, London, Tokyo.
Her work is held in many private and public collections including HM The Queen Mother, St Thomas’s Hospital, Hilton Hotels and John Lewis – Cheadle.
Jenny exhibited at the first Gorstella Gallery exhibition in November 1990 and we are thrilled to have shown her work many times over the following years.
